The English Championship is known for being one of the most unpredictable and exciting football leagues in the world. With the 2018/2019 season coming to an end, let's take a look at the final standings and points table.
At the top of the table, Norwich City finished as champions with an impressive 94 points. Their attacking style of play and consistent performances throughout the season made them the team to beat.
Sheffield United secured the second automatic promotion spot with 89 points. Their solid defence and effective counter-attacking style of play saw them secure their return to the Premier League after a 12-year absence.
The playoff places were secured by Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa, and Derby County. The playoffs provided some of the most dramatic moments of the season, including the incredible comeback by Aston Villa in the final against Derby County.
At the bottom of the table, Ipswich Town finished rock bottom with just 31 points. It was a difficult season for them, as they struggled to find any form of consistency over the course of the campaign.
Bolton Wanderers and Rotherham United were also relegated, finishing with 32 and 40 points respectively. Despite some impressive performances throughout the season, both teams were unable to secure enough points to remain in the Championship.
The rest of the teams in the Championship were involved in a mid-table battle throughout the season. While they were not involved in the promotion or relegation race, they still had plenty to play for.
Preston North End, Bristol City, and Hull City were among the teams that finished in the top half of the table. Their consistency and ability to grind out results against tough opposition saw them finish in a respectable position.
At the other end of the table, Millwall and Reading found themselves battling it out to avoid being dragged into the relegation zone. While they were ultimately successful in avoiding relegation, it was a difficult season for both clubs.
The 2018/2019 season of the English Championship was one of the most exciting and closely contested in recent memory. With the playoffs providing some of the most dramatic moments, and Norwich and Sheffield United securing promotion with their impressive performances, fans were entertained from start to finish.
While the teams that were relegated will be disappointed, they will have the opportunity to bounce back next season. For the teams that finished in the top half of the table, they will be looking to build on their successes and mount a challenge for promotion next year.
